SEEN: The Film Event

Parents and caregivers are invited to join Parenting on Mars and Insight Family Therapy for an exclusive screening of the groundbreaking Australian documentary, SEEN.

SEEN is a groundbreaking feature-length documentary that not only explores the transformative power of personal healing for parents but also delves into the scientifically supported effects of such healing on parenting and its impact on child brain development.

By focusing on the unexplored aspect of parents confronting their own childhood coping mechanisms, "SEEN" is poised to fill a significant gap in current narratives.

Rachael Fritz: Parenting Coach and Founder of Parenting on Mars

As a parenting coach and mom of 3, I believe that all behavior is communication. I help parents shift from a place of frustration and disconnect to confidence and connection. The result is more joyful family moments and relationships that impact the health and wellbeing of future generations. Our parenting is our legacy.

Susan Chen: Clinical Director/Psychotherapist MS, LCSW

I believe that connection is the agent of change.  I work from a lens of cultural sensitivity and understand that our identities, cultural norms and experiences within the greater culture shape who we are and impact how we feel.  I consider the therapeutic relationship a partnership, where together we will explore and understand the difficulties that are getting in the way.

Dr. Jessica Reggi: Pediatrician with Turning Teen

I am Turning Teen's Chicagoland pediatrician and facilitate medically accurate educational workshops to start the conversation between t(w)eens and their parents or trusted adults about puberty changes, periods, body image, sexual health, and more. I practiced clinical pediatrics throughout Chicago for about eight years before transitioning to nonprofit leadership. I'm passionate about the intersection of health and education and believe that t(w)eens should learn about their bodies and advocate for their health!

  • Zidia Valdebenito recalls a night when her second child, Zye, had just gotten to sleep and the elder one, Matayo, started crying and woke the baby up. She ran into the room and started yelling in the toddler’s face, terrifying him. “I think the turning point for me was when my son reacted to what I did to him with violence,” she says. “When I put him in the timeout, he grabbed the chair and he smashed it. “I just realised what I’m doing is not working, and so I had to make some drastic changes.”

  • “We always talk about leaving your house as a legacy. “I've scrapped all of that. I say you're leaving yourself in them as a legacy, and that is the most beautiful gift that keeps on giving forever.”

Selena Bartlett, Group Leader of Translational Neuroscience at the Translational Research Institute and a Professor in the School of Clinical Sciences at QUT’s Faculty of Health

  • "Who I was as a dad at 20-years-old and who I am now as a dad are two very different people. I’m not the same person. And that’s through my behaviour and my education, and my willingness to be able to get curious about why I do what I do."
